Solhem has an awesome owner/manager and staff. There are always activities and people really do engage themselves in meeting others.

After nine years of living in Minneapolis, this was the first time I went to the cross country skiing Loppet—spurred on by a fun group of Solhem neighbors.

Curt and the staff are truly interested in my needs and really make Solhem a wonderful place to call home.

Our Story

Solhem is about the enduring power of friendships. The building is the brainchild of Curt Gunsbury, an ardent environmentalist and former special education teacher, who gathered the support of six college roommates to realize his dream. They love that the delight they have in each other has set the tone for the community that has taken root at Solhem.

The name Solhem means “sun house” in Swedish and was inspired by a home in Särö, Sweden, which is the residence of a friend Curt has known since she was an AFS student at his high school. With its abundance of natural sunlight, modern aesthetic, and close proximity to shops and nature trails, the house epitomizes the good life.
